The painting was part of a student group exhibition entitled Nocturnal Twist which I coordinated in Aberdeen's Limousine Bull in 2011. The city of Aberdeen was at the heart of this nocturnal theme and comprised a two-piece set with this one highlighting the city coming to life in a vibrant and colourful way. I also wanted to show that there is a confidence in a vibrant nightlife and it is depicted by the image of a gun-toting girl taking from a poster on a bus stop. In order for this to show through, I took several images of Union Street from all viewpoints and laid them over each other, blended them and presented them in one view, which allows various elements to bleed through and others to be hidden. However, the image also highlights that there are hidden dangers, such as a police vehicle, there is a darkness amidst the bright light and at the bottom you have the image washing out and grey, which bleeds through into the second painting.
